Fees

Hourly fee of £25 plus expenses. Expenses are agreed in advance and may include:

  • Travel at the HMRC rate of 45p per mile, parking or standard public transport tickets charged at cost.
  • GRO certificates and other documents, such as wills, charges at cost and to be paid for in advance of ordering.
  • Fees payable to archives and other repositories for photography, photocopying etc. charged at cost.
  • Reports and any accompanying documents will be supplied in PDF format and sent via email at no extra cost. If hard copies are required, this can be arranged on request and charged at cost for such as printing, postage and packaging.

Fees are based on full hours, and there is a minimum of one hour for any commission. The time calculated for a commission includes the time for research and also the time to write up the report.

Quotations for work of £100 or below must be paid in full before research commences. A deposit of 50% is required for commissions over £100. I reserve the right not to undertake work until these advance payments have been received and cleared.

Payments must be in pounds sterling via cheque (UK customers only, and cleared before any work commences), bank transfer (including any associated fees), or PayPal (including any associated fees).

Final payment must be received before the report is issued.

To ensure you are always in control of the costs:

  • I will consult you before undertaking work that will incur any cost beyond what has already been agreed.
  • I will not exceed the number of hours commissioned without agreement.

Reports

A clear and concise report with referenced sources will be issued on receipt of the final payment.

Please be aware that family history research is not guaranteed, and it is sometimes not possible to find the expected information in a particular document or to trace a family back as far as desired.  Research time includes any time spent searching with a negative outcome.  However, the work undertaken will always rule out sources and lines of enquiry that can assist in any future research.  Any negative outcomes will be included in my report.

Packages

Family tree packages include research in post-1837 online UK records only. A professionally researched and referenced report and family tree will be provided.
